Whoa! Iditarod Trail Sled Finish!

Hike!  Musher-talk to get moving.  And move they did.  Starting March 5, mushers and their dog teams began “the last great race on earth.”  From Anchorage to Nome, Alaska, they traveled over 1,150 miles through beautiful terrain, but rarely a coffee shop in sight.

No wonder one musher pleaded for an espresso as reported by Will Peterson in a March 16 post titled “Coffee.”
“Sven Haltman who arrived in Nome just before 4 this morning said in White Mountain that he couldn’t wait to get to Nome to have a good cup of espresso; he said he was tired of drinking bad checkpoint coffee.  Someone asked don’t you want a beer?  Sven said he had a beer with friends and family last year as soon as he finished.  It immediately put him to sleep and this year he wanted to stay awake in Nome and enjoy the celebration.  Coffee, no beer.  Haltman finished the Iditarod in 14th position.” http://www.iditarod.com

Great job! “Easy!” I’m heading into town for my morning espresso.

Another tidbit: Iditarod means distant or far distant place, and I guess too distant for a Starbucks

Hey, this was great. Loved the “musher’ definitions and could really relate to the beer putting one to sleep.

  4. Lynn Says:

Good coffee is always welcomed, especially on a 1150 trek by dog sled.
